There is a name that is conspicuous by its absence on Western University's so-called "Sunshine List" for 2015.
That name is Amit Chakma.
The University President and Vice-Chancellor's name is not on this year's list of employees at the University making $100,000 or more. The list was released on Thursday and contains hundreds of names.
But Chakma's name is not on the list because the University says he decided to forgo a salary in 2015 and instead directed that money toward paying back the year's worth of salary he received, on top of his regular salary, in 2014 in lieu of not taking an administrative leave. According to a release from Western, "He has repaid the full amount with interest."
Chakma's double-salary in 2014 caused considerable alarm among students, staff, and faculty. It led to a review of Western's compensation practices, which determined the then-Chair of the Board of Governors approved the arrangement without the knowledge of the other members of the board.
