Officials Investigate Old South Apartment Fire

Fire officials are looking for the cause of an apartment fire in Old South that sent two people to hospital.

London firefighters were called to the building on High St. at Wellington Rd. around 10:45pm Wednesday.

"When crews first got there, there were flames visible from the street. There was heavy black smoke coming out of the unit, coming out of the window and the door to the building," says Platoon Chief Doug Shannon.

Two people were inside the apartment at the time of the blaze.

"The occupants were outside when crews arrived, they did take in a lot of smoke," says Shannon. "They were transported to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and observation."

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire which was contained to a bedroom in one of the apartments.

Damage is estimated at $70,000.
