Over 500 Livestock Killed In Barn Fire

Around 500 milking goats and 30 cattle have perished in a large barn fire west of London.

Middlesex Centre Acting Fire Chief Mark Rennison says firefighters responded to the blaze on Bells Rd. near Delaware, around 6:15am on Sunday. Fire crews were at the scene for around six hours.

No one was injured in the fire, but none of the livestock in the barn survived.

According to Rennison, the barn is too heavily damaged to determine the cause of the fire and fire officials are no longer investigating. Damages are estimated at over $2-million.

This marks the third large barn fire in southwestern Ontario that has occurred in that last two weeks.

On January 4, 43 racehorses were killed in a barn fire in Puslinch. And on January 14, 12 horses died in a blaze west of Mount Forest. Damage to that barn is pegged at around $500,000.
