Counterfeit Cash Found In Simcoe

Provincial police are warning residents of Norfolk County and business owners to be wary of American $50 bills.

Police received three calls about counterfeit American $50's being handed in Simcoe on Tuesday.

Police are urging people to do their due diligence when accepting foreign currency by knowing and checking for security features and report to police anyone suspected of passing counterfeits.

“Checking bank notes protects everyone, so don’t be offended if a cashier carefully examines your bills. Routinely checking the security features of all notes - large and small - allows cashiers to intercept counterfeits and keep them out of the till and out of your change,” says Constable Ed Sanchuk.

When dealing with suspected counterfeit cash, police say to remember the person in possession of the bill could also be an innocent victim who does not realize the money is fake.
