Internet Camera In Nursery Hacked

Police are cautioning the public after an internet camera used to monitor a nursery was hacked in Middlesex Centre.

The Ontario Provincial Police says on July 7 around 9pm, a local resident was rocking their child to sleep in the nursery when the internet camera used to monitor the room was remotely activated by an unknown person.

The camera reportedly played eerie music and a voice could be heard indicating the parent and child were being watched.

The internet provider has since confirmed the home's router had been hacked.

Police are reminding citizens that security cameras and monitoring systems may be susceptible to hackers.

To minimize risks, residents are urged to check the camera's manual for details, purchase the camera from a trusted source, change the default password, be diligent with remote monitoring, and cover cameras when not in use.
