'The Coves' Gets An Upgrade

The Coves in the heart of the city will soon be more accessible for kayakers and hikers.

In partnership with the City of London and Friends of The Coves, the federal government is contributing $45,000 as part of a $150,000 project being undertaken by the city to build a fully accessible scenic trail, a new pond lookout and a canoe launch at The Coves in central London.

The project will also provide greater access to the 65 hectare ecosystem, while providing better protection to local plants and animals.

“This is a great example of how the city, the federal government and the community have come together to work on a significant project in London,” says London Mayor Matt Brown in a news release. “The Coves has long been a coveted place of environmental significance and it's my hope that our community continues to enjoy it for generations to come.”

The federal government's contribution towards The Coves is part of a $10-million national investment to help expand and rehabilitate Canada’s trail systems.
