Report Cards Coming After All

Just one day after announcing students would only be getting a pass or fail notice for the year, the Thames Valley District School Board says report cards will be handed out after all.

"By September 2015, parents/guardians will be able to visit their child's school to receive a summary of the marks submitted by teachers at the end of this school year," says Director of Education Laura Elliott. “Our decision to provide student marks comes after learning that the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) provincial instructed teachers not to provide or discuss student marks with parents – in contrast to earlier statements made by the union.”

Those instructions have not been confirmed by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario.

A student placement letter, detailing what grade kids will be in come the fall, will be sent home with students on Friday, June 19.

The union had previously told BlackburnNews.com the teachers had submitted grades and comments, but the TVDSB decided it was too time consuming and costly for their own staff to process the information.

ETFO started a work-to-rule campaign May 9.

The TVDSB says parents should monitor school web sites for details regarding marks.
