London Food Drive Finishes Strong

Despite starting out with low donations, the London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive has exceeded last year's total.

A number of generous London residents have donated 56,700 lbs of non-perishable food items to the London Food Bank for this year's drive. Last year the food drive managed to raise around 42,000 lbs.

Co-Executive Director of the London Food Bank Glen Pearson says he knew local residents would come through in the end.

"It's a very complex food drive because some areas don't give as heavily as others do," he says. "We knew we had two heavy areas at the end of the drive, so at the beginning it looked like we were down an that people weren't interested. We know that wouldn't be true."

The 19th annual London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive ran from June 5-13 and collected donations placed at the side of the curb on recycling day, as well as at participating grocery stores and Tim Horton's locations.

The running total after 19 years of running the food drive has now passed 1.2-million lbs of donated food items.
