Police Say Teen Died Tracking Lost Cellphone

London police say the 18-year-old shot dead over the weekend was trying to recover his lost cellphone.

Investigators say Jeremy Cook left his phone in a taxi cab on Saturday night. He had tracked it to 1181 Highbury Ave. He went to that address with a relative around 5:15am and approached a silver 2006 Mazda 6.

While parked at that location, officers say one passenger got out of the car and walked away before the driver tried to leave. The 18-year-old victim partially climbed into the car and held onto the driver's side door. Police say the car went down Highbury Ave., then turned east before shots were fired.

Officers were called and found Cook dead behind the plaza on the corner of Highbury and Huron St. They say he had been shot several times.

The Mazda then drove west down Huron St., hitting a fence and hydro pole near Barker St. It was abandoned at Wyndham Cres.

Investigators say a man was seen running northwest through Ed Blake Park. Shortly after, three men were seen leaving the area in a cab. They were stopped by police, taken into custody and questioned, they were not involved and have since been released.

The victim's cellphone was recovered in the area of Wyndham Cres. and Barker St.

Police say the suspects and Cook were not known to each other.

Investigators are now looking for the two men in the car at the time of the shooting and the one who left prior.

They are all described as being between 18-21 years old.

Police say the first suspect is a black male who was wearing a white shirt with a black design at the time of the shooting.

The second is described as a black male with very short hair. He was wearing a black jacket or shirt and a fitted hat.

The third is a black man of slim build who was wearing a blue shirt and a black hat.
