UPDATE: Woman Dies In Crash Near Parkhill

One person is dead and another has been injured following a three-vehicle collision near Parkhill.

The Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police says around 3:59pm on Friday, a black Ford car travelling west on Nairn Rd., came to a stop at a stop sign and flashing red light at Centre Rd. When the Ford proceeded into the intersection it was struck by a red International transport truck and trailer loaded with fertilizer. The transport truck was traveling north on Centre Rd. which has a flashing amber light.

The two vehicles then struck a third vehicle, a grey Dodge SUV, which was travelling south on Centre Rd. The SUV overturned and came to a stop on its roof in a ditch.

Police say the driver of the Ford, 74-year-old Mary Murray-Wardlaw of Oshawa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lone occupant of the SUV, a 40-year-old Chatham man, was taken to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and has since been discharged. The driver of the transport truck, a 50-year-old man from Bosanquet Township, was uninjured.

Police say Centre Rd. was closed from Coldstream Rd. to Elginfield Rd., and Nairn Rd. was closed from Springbank Rd. to Haskett Rd. for several hours while officers conducted their investigation. The area has since been reopened to traffic.
