Diaper Drive For Low Income Families

A local agency is hoping Londoners will be as generous with baby supplies as they often are with food.

A diaper drive has been started by Great Expectations, a birthing education service. All of the donations are going to family crisis centres LifeSpin and Rotholme Women's Shelter.

"Children can't look after themselves. They need people to be around to make sure that they have what they need," says Maureen Caissie, manager of the Free Store at LifeSpin. "Just for them to get the basic needs sometimes is very hard for parents, especially in low income families."

LifeSpin's Free Store is open every Thursday and Caissie says each week she sees about 35 families needing baby supplies. Overall, the service helps more than 500 London parents with children under the age of 6.

"We only have so much that can go around. So we've had to put a limit as to what we can give," says Caissie. "If I had tons, I would give it all away."

The diaper drive is accepting donations until the end of March.

Items to donate:

Disposable or cloth diapers Gently used baby clothing Baby toiletries
