2.5% Tax Hike Stands

After three days of talks, city councillors arrived at a final number for the 2015 budget: 2.5% or $63 on the average London home.

They began talks on Thursday at 2.5% and that's where they ended the day. Councillors denied funding to Emerging Leaders, a group that works to attract and keep young, educated workers in London. But they approved a $1.3-million dollar plan to transform Dundas St. into a "flex street". The funds to revamp a four-block stretch of Dundas St. will come from money saved on other projects. The idea includes installing removable posts to convert the street into a pedestrian-only space for special events.

Other big-ticket items include a new recreation centre in east London and an arena in Summerside.

The spreadsheet will still go before a public meeting on Feb. 19 and require full council's approval before it's finalized on Feb. 26.
