Gaming For A Cause

The 3rd Annual Project Play gaming event is welcoming hundreds to London this weekend.

All money raised from ticket sales goes towards buying video game equipment for local crisis centres and women's shelters.

Mathew Hoy and a friend came up with the idea during a night out at Palasad, where the event was held over the last two years. This year, it moves to the Western Fair District.

"Some of the crisis centres use video games as a way to teach emotion and empathy for people who go to those centres," says Hoy. "If mom has to go talk to the police, or a family member has to talk to a counsellor, you know that the kids can go play FIFA in the other room and enjoy themselves . It gives them a break from all the things that are going on in their lives."

So far, Project Play has raised over 10,000 to purchase video game equipment. It is expected upwards of 400 people will attend this year.

Project Play starts at 10am on Sunday, November 23 at the Western Fair District.
