Police have confirmed one man is dead after a shooting near the Hullett Wildlife Area just north of Clinton.

OPP were called to the scene just after 5 pm Saturday.   When they arrived, one man was found dead at the scene.

The Huron County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Chris Avery of OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, is continuing to investigate the incident.

The OPP remind all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times.

Police still have a perimeter in the area cordoned off for a search for evidence. Forensics investigators are also involved.

There’s been no word on any arrest,  and there have been no reports of any suspects at this time.

Many in the Clinton area were left frustrated not knowing whether to worry, or why exactly there was such a heavy police presence. Last night residents were asked to lock their doors and windows.

Blackburn News Reporter Bob Montgomery says locals are left wondering exactly what is going on.

Rob and Diane Proper have friends and family in the area and were driving around the intersection of Hydro Line and Wildlife Line this morning. Diane Proper explains one of their biggest concerns at this point is the lack of information.

“Everyone is trying to grab what little information they can get,” she says.

Further information will be released when available.

Police have still not confirmed why there is police activity north of Clinton.

Late yesterday afternoon, officers and cruisers started setting up a perimeter north of the Central Huron town.  They are still there this afternoon.

There were reports from citizens in the area that a search was underway after the suspected shooting of two people. Reports also say a man has been killed and his wife has been injured. However, police have not confirmed any shootings at this time.

Police currently have a large area blocked off between Baseline Rd. east to Wildlife Line, north of Clinton. Conservation Rd. and Hydro Line Rd. are also blocked off, they run east-west between Baseline and Wildlife. Blackburn News Reporter Bob Montgomery says a helicopter was involved as well, but it has not been seen over the last hour.

Last night, people in the area were asked to lock their windows and doors in the Clinton area.

Central Huron mayor Jim Ginn confirmed the warning.

“The police are advising that everyone stay inside, lock their doors and lock their windows and they’re in control of the situation so we will let them do their job,” he says.
