Rain Doesn’t Damper Spirits At Western Fair

After a couple of rainy nights put a damper on attendance, the final weekend of the Western Fair is about to get underway.

The fair had to close on the opening Friday night and on Wednesday night because of thunderstorms and heavy rain. However, fair officials are expecting a busy final weekend.

“We’ve had some beautiful weather days and in those days we’ve seen some great crowds and great audiences at our concerts. So I think we’re doing well,” says spokesperson Heather Blackwell. “It’s unfortunate about the severe weather, but it terms of public safety, closing the fair and evacuating people into buildings and/or off grounds for safety was the right thing to do.”

She says if the weather holds this weekend, fair officials are anticipating a busy final weekend.

“We always do well on the last Sunday because it is the two-for-one ride coupon promotion. We’ve got some really strong concerts,” says Blackwell. “It is a big day for families, because it offers great value for families, especially those with more than one child.”
