Walkathon For Kids' Breakfast

A Windsor woman is going to walk home from London to raise money for children in need of a healthy breakfast.

Jenna Providenti, a mortgage agent orginally from London, is walking 176km in support of the Breakfast Club of Canada.

Providenti will leave Springbank Park on Monday and spend nearly three days walking along Hwy. 2 to Windsor.

"The more I learned about it and researched it, it was quite shocking to me to find out so many kids go to school without breakfast," she says. "So being a mother, I decided that something needs to be done about it."

Providenti's fundraising goal is $5,000 but she hopes to raise much more. The money will go directly to the Breakfast Club of Canada's school programs.

"I just can't stomach a young child the age of my son going to school and not having breakfast," she says. "Everyone talks about changing the future, well the only way to do it is with these kids, and if they all can't have an equal opportunity, then it doesn't make sense."

Members of the community are welcome to join her in Springbank Park and participate in the beginning of the walk.

"My 13-year-old is going to attempt to do the majority of it with me, that's her goal. So I'm very proud of her for that," says Providenti.

The Breakfast Club of Canada supports 1,328 breakfast programs across Canada and provides nearly 152,000 children with breakfast every morning.
