A Brampton woman is facing charges after London police allege she was involved in the sexual trafficking of a 20-year-old intellectually disabled woman.
Amy Dykes, 40, was arrested after police say she convinced the victim to move with her to Brampton, took control of her finances, and introduced her to prostitution.
She also allegedly threatened and assaulted the woman several times.
Police claim Dykes used the threat of violence to control the victim and took her to hotels in London, Brampton, Windsor, and Mississagua, where the young women engaged in sex acts for money.
The victim came forward to police after an interaction with the Community Oriented Response Unit and Dykes was arrested in Brampton on Wednesday, July 22.
"What our COR unit officers do is they often times reach out to potential victims of human trafficking and or prostitution as a means of connecting and offering support," says Constable Ken Steeves of London police. "We did this with this lady and a few days later, a short time later, she reconnected with us and provided us with some information."
Dykes is charged with:
- Trafficking in persons
- Receiving financial benefit from trafficking
- Assault
- Assault with a weapon
- Forcible confinement
- Procuring illicit sexual intercourse
- Procuring person to be a prostitute
- Exercising control of a person for the purpose of prostitution
- Extortion
- Sexual exploitation of a person with a disability
