Warner Wins Gold, Marchant Wins Bronze

It was a golden, record breaking day for Londoner Damian Warner at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

He won the gold medal in the decathlon and broke a 19-year-old Canadian record. Warner finished with 8,659 points, breaking the previous Canadian record of 8,626, set by Michael Smith in 1996.

Warner finished first in five of the decathlon’s 10 events. He was first in the 100m sprint, long jump, 400m, 110m hurdles, and the 1500m.

Also on Thursday, Londoner Lanni Marchant won bronze in the women’s 10,000m in a time of 32 minutes, 46.03 seconds.
