No Flooding Expected Despite Downpour

Despite the heavy rainfall, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority says no flooding is expected.

Teresa Hollingsworth, coordinator of community and corporate services with the UTRCA, says although flooding is not a concern, the heavy rainfall puts a strain on the water systems and moves to the river quickly.

"It really causes a problem on people's personal property if their property can't take this much run off in a short amount of time," says Hollingsworth.

During heavy downpours, she notes there is always a chance for water related accidents and it is important to be aware of how to stay safe.

"Anything can be dangerous to your pets or your children. You want to make sure that you're being really careful, driving slowly through any kind of puddles, that type of thing."

Hollingsworth says no further severe weather is expected short term.

The rain closed all city fields, outdoor pools, and caused a power outage at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.
