Province Consulting Communities On Infrastructure Projects

The province is hosting consultations in the region in an effort to prioritize infrastructure projects.

The Moving Ontario Forward fund is a $15-billion investment in roads, bridges, transit and highways outside of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area. About $11.5-billion of it is still available.

A team from the province will host consultation meetings in London, Windsor and Waterloo to meet with politicians, businesses and residents to find out what is most needed in each community.

You can also make your voice heard by sending an email or writing to the province ahead of September 18.

The dates for the consultations are as follows:

  • July 27 - Waterloo Region
  • July 28 - Windsor
  • July 29 - London
Details of times and locations will follow.

The Ontario government is moving ahead with plans to sell off a 60% stake in Hydro One to fund infrastructure projects. It is expected the privatization of the public asset will generate about $4-billion in one-time funding.

Just last week, Premier Wynne was in London to meet with southwestern Ontario mayors. She stressed the importance of the sell-off and the need to talk infrastructure .

“This needs to be a better run company and we need to make investments in infrastructure,” says the premier. “We have made a commitment to make investment in infrastructure and assets that are going to serve the people of Ontario into the future. We have some assets that have served us very well, and we said that we needed to review those to invest in the assets that will serve us in the 21st century.”

The province says over the next 10 years a total of $130-billion will go towards infrastructure projects.
