Londoners Urged To Join Neighbourhood Watch

As vandalism and break-in rates climb in London, the organizers of the Neighbourhood Watch program are urging you to talk to those who live next to you.

Executive Director Simon Pont says often times people do not know who their neighbours are or if they have been a victim of a break-in, robbery or vandalism.

About 20% of the neighbourhoods in London have blue Neighbourhood Watch signs posted.

"It says 'when you come in here, if you're up to no good the chances are someone is going to call it in.' And 32 years of data shows crime is up to 50% lower in a watch area, I think that speaks for itself," says Pont. "When you share what's going on in the neighbourhood, even just talking on a day-to-day basis, our neighbours are much better informed on what's going on in the streets."

Recently, south London has seen a string of crimes involving a pellet gun.
