Curb Side Food Drive Launches

Londoners are being asked to put out food donations with their recycling bins beginning this Friday.

The London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive begins its 19th year of collecting donations to prepare for what the Food Bank says is a challenging summer ahead.

At Wednesday morning's media launch, co-director of the London Food Bank Glen Pearson said donations are down at this time of year but demand is high.

"This is the food from this drive that gets us through the summer and into Thanksgiving. If this food drive did not exist, we'd be in serious trouble," he says.

The Food Drive runs from June 5 to June 13 and anyone who would like to donate can bring their non-perishable food items to participating grocery stores, any Tim Hortons location, or place them beside their Blue Box on recycling day.

"We've done this for so many years, and more and more people are coming out to support, that's wonderful," says Pearson. "The downside of that is more and more people are coming that need help. We need to fix that."

The London Food Bank contributes to more than 20 groups and agencies and has been helping the community since 1987.
