Turning Used Tires Into Granted Wishes

A Canadian charity known for granting the wishes of children with physical disabilities and life threatening illnesses is hoping to turn used car tires into fulfilled dreams.

The Sunshine Foundation of Canada is holding its annual Tire Take Back event.

From June 1 to June 6, old tires can be recycled at participating locations and proceeds will benefit the Sunshine Foundation of Canada.

"Sunshine is about creating possibilities for children and creating confidence in their world," says CEO of the Sunshine Foundation of Canada, Nancy Sutherland. "All of these funds go toward running Sunshine and making dreams come true."

This year the event is hosted by the Ontario Auto Recyclers Association (OARA), the Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS), and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA).

A donated tire will generate about $1.70 and an agricultural tire will generate $6 for the Sunshine Foundation. The goal is to raise $100,000 this year.

Last year, more than 46,000 tires were collected across Ontario and the event raised over $90,000.

The Sunshine Foundation of Canada was created in London in 1987 and has made over 8,000 children's dreams come true.
