Father Charged In Stabbing Appears In Court

The man accused of stabbing his five-year-old daughter will appear in a London court again next week.

Andrew Hill, 38, is charged with attempted murder. He made a brief court appearance by video Friday morning.

Police were called to Hill's home in London's Westmount-area around 6am Tuesday after a report of a child with multiple stab wounds.

The five-year-old was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but has since stabilized and is expected to live. A man police later identified as the child's father was arrested at the scene and later charged.

The motive behind the crime remains unclear as police have released little information.

Neighbours on the quiet cul-de-sac tell BlackburnNews.com Hill and his wife have four children, two boys and two girls. They say the mother was often outside playing with the kids, but the father was rarely seen.

During his first court appearance on Wednesday, Hill buried his head in his hands and slumped in the prisoner's box. He was wearing a bright green t-shirt that read "help, I am talking and I can't shut up."

The judge banned Hill from speaking to a long list of people, including his wife and children.

He will appear before a judge again by video from the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre on May 29.
