Hundreds of Londoners gathered in Victoria Park on Tuesday to protest Ontario’s new sex-education curriculum .

They held signs with phrases like “teach morals, not oral” and “science, not sex”.

Under the changes, Grade 3 students will learn about same-sex relationships, kids in Grades 4 and up will learn more about the dangers of online bullying, while the dangers of sexting will come in Grade 7.

Lessons about puberty will move from Grade 5 to Grade 4, while masturbation and gender expression are mentioned in the Grade 6 curriculum.

Nikee Steinhoff is a member of Parents’ Alliance of London. She delivered a speech at the protest in which she said she is worried about the effects the new curriculum may have on children.

“I believe that it will sexualize them. I believe we will see more sexual abuse and more sexual assaults,” says Steinhoff. “I believe it will put false information in their minds and ultimately corrupt the province of Ontario.

Steinhoff feels parents weren’t consulted when the new curriculum was being written.

“It does not align with the Canadian value system. It does not align with the Canadian criminal code,” says Steinhoff. “There is just inappropriate information throughout that curriculum.”

Teachers will being using the new curriculum September 2015.
