March Break Staycation Activities

It's March Break and Environment Canada predicts a mild week ahead, although after Monday's high of 11C, it won't be quite as mild as last week.

OPP launched a distracted driving blitz on the weekend, and with kids out of school across the province, it's a timely reminder to keep full attention on the road when you're driving.

If your March Break is a staycation, the City of London has loads of activities planned, and most don't require registration.

Even though the skating season is over at Storybook Gardens and Covent Garden Market, skating will continue at Victoria Park, weather permitting. City-owned arenas will offer skating times on different days through the week. There's also swimming in various locations and family rollerskating on Monday afternoon at the North London Optimist Community Centre on Cheapside St.

Beth Landowski, Supervisor for Neighbourhood, Children and Fire Services for the City of London, explains a course for 10-12-year-olds called First Step to Being Home Alone, running all day Thursday in Byron.

A babysitting course for ages 11-16 also runs on Thursday at the Kinsmen Arena.

Landowski says all programs are very popular and it's wise to register early for the courses. Swimming, roller-skating and ice skating don't require registration.
