Boris Panovsky Back In Court, Re-hires Lawyer

Boris Panovsky was back in court in Goderich Thursday morning via a video link.

The 70-year-old is charged in a fatal shooting of Don Frigo and the wounding of Frigo's wife Eva Willer at the Hullet Wildlife Area near Clinton last September.

Panovski has been held in the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre since his arrest about a week after the shooting.

Today he announced he has decided to take the advice the judge gave him at an in-person hearing two weeks ago and hire a lawyer.

He has re-hired Toronto lawyer Bob Richardson, who represented him briefly last fall, despite telling court in earlier appearances he wanted to represent himself.

Panovski had told court he didn't want to waste money on a lawyer because he wasn't happy with the one he had and didn't want legal aid.

The first task for the lawyer will be to help Panovski read through the discovery information from the crown.

It's hoped he can do that in the next two weeks so a pre-trial date can be set at his next video appearance on March 26 in Goderich.
