LEDC Looking Elsewhere For Tech Talent

With over 500 open positions within London's technology sector, the London Economic Development Corporation is advertising the jobs in places like Vancouver and Toronto.

President and CEO Kapil Lakhotia says those major markets have a higher concentration of tech talent, many of whom may be interested in re-locating to the area to grow local start-ups.

"A lot of the positions within the tech sector are very specialized and are niche, so they (employees) need to be recruited from other centres," says Lakhotia, who notes London is the ideal place for the sector to grow. "Our quality of life, affordability of housing, the downtown recreation elements, as well as the availability of some very interesting skill sets combine together to form an attractive value proposition for tech companies."

The LEDC has dedicated an entire portal on the web site to showcasing over 100 London start-ups and the hundreds of job opportunities. Ads have also been placed in national business magazines.

Lakhotia says the employers also benefit from those who are graduating from London's college and university with a fresh set of skills.
