Police Remain Optimistic In Cold Case Murders

Two years after the launch of a web page dedicated to the city's unsolved murders, London police are still hopeful online tips will lead to an arrest and conviction in 10 cold cases.

The oldest crime dates back to 1956 and the most recent occurred in 2012.

Investigators say despite not having any leads, no case is ever truly closed.

"We never give up hope. Of course, as years go by they become more challenging given the fact that people's memories fade," says Detective Sergeant Paul Bastien.

Bastien tells BlackburnNews.com every tip received through the web page is investigated to the fullest.

"As recently as 2012, there was a case where a tip that we received here directly resulted in us persuing a different investigative avenue and ultimately resulted in charges being laid and a conviction in court," notes Bastien.

He says while the web page has steady traffic, the most views come during the anniversaries of the victim's deaths.

For a reward to be offered in a case an appeal must be made to the Police Services Board and officers must believe a reward could lead to new information in the case.

The London Police Service does not have a dedicated cold case unit, but all murders are investigated by the Major Crimes Unit.
