Developers Sought For Old Victoria Hospital Lands

The city is looking for developers to submit possible plans for the Old Victoria Hospital lands.

There is a 5 hectare parcel of land north of the Thames River, east of Wellington Rd., that is currently being cleared.

The plan is to utilize the waterfront and add to the residential neighbourhood.

“You would be seeing anything from townhouse to apartment buildings. Some of those apartment buildings might have some shops at the ground levels,” says London’s Manager of Urban Regeneration Jim Yanchula, who notes some historic buildings will stay. “We want to introduce a new neighbourhood that connects better with the Thames River, offers a few neighbourhood commercial uses and hopefully takes advantage of some of the great heritage buildings that are still there.”

City Hall has issued a Request for Expression of Interest. The hope is that after plans are approved by council construction would start in 2016.

Site plan submissions are due by December 18 and then will be reviewed by city staff.
