City Issues Statement On Ottawa Shootings
The City of London has released a statement about Wednesday’s shootings in Ottawa. The statement was issued Wednesday afternoon. In it, Acting Mayor Paul Hubert expresses condolences on behalf of Londoners.
The statement reads,
“We are deeply saddened by this senseless violence and the victim it has claimed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected, their families, friends and colleagues. We are grateful for the men and women of Canada’s military and protective services who have responded so bravely and so selflessly to this heinous crime. All Londoners condemn these brutal acts and those who would strike at the heart of our democracy. Parliament Hill and the War Memorial are special places in our nation. We stand with all Canadians steadfast in our commitment to Canada’s peaceful democratic principles.”
The city announced that it has “instituted a measured response with respect to security throughout City facilities.”
It is also lowering the flag on the Community Flagpole to half-staff in honour of the soldier who was shot and killed at the War Memorial.
