Hunter Joining Leafs Front Office

As many had long suspected, Mark Hunter is going back to the NHL.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Tuesday morning that the London Knights General Manager has been hired as the team’s Director of Player Personnel.

“I am very excited about joining the Toronto Maple Leafs organization,” says Hunter. “I’m going to be scouting and on the road trying to find hockey players. In that process hopefully I can help them get better, let’s see what I can do.”

For the past 14 seasons, Hunter has been the Knights co-owner, Vice President, and General Manager. He also did a stint as head coach during the 2011-2012 season, in which the Knights won the OHL championship and advanced to the final of the Memorial Cup.

In his new position with the Leafs, Hunter will oversee the organization’s pro scouting, amateur scouting and player evaluation departments.

The Knights have named Basil McRae the team’s new GM and Alternate Governor.
