Eight Racetrack Alliance Formed

The Western Fair Raceway is forming an alliance with seven other racetracks in Ontario in hopes of drawing larger crowds.

Western Fair Raceway, Woodbine, Mohawk, Flamborough Downs, Georgian Downs, Grand River Raceway, Clinton Raceway and Hanover Raceway now all share the same wagering platform to make it more consistent for race fans in different parts of the province.

“It’s something that we kind of had to do. The racetracks are forced to think differently, things have changed in the last couple of years and so a group of racetracks go together to think of some efficiencies that would benefit everybody,” says Western Fair Racing Manager Greg Blanchard. “It was an upgrade for us. We’re certainly one of the three or four busiest race tracks in the province. We’ve had a few good years here and have become the hub for this part of the province.”

The province has granted Western Fair Raceway all of its requested 125 race dates.

Racing now takes place every Monday, Tuesday and Friday night until December, when they will add Wednesday night races until the season ends in May.

Blanchard tells BlackburnNews.com the public turnout at the first few race dates have been impressive and promising.
