Update: Gun Call near Wilton Grove Public

The search of a home prompted by a call about a shot fired on Monday morning, has resulted in the seizure of several weapons and charges against a 61-year-old London man.

Police put three schools on hold-and-secure, keeping children in their classrooms as a precaution after the call to Barrett Crescent at about 11 am.  Wilton Grove Public, St. Francis Elementary and Sir Wilfred Laurier Secondary were affected by the order. Police searched the home and say they found a Marlin, single-shot, bolt-action, .22 calibre semi-automatic rifle converted to a handgun and a Winchester 77, .22 calibre, semi-automatic rifle with scope and laser. They also seized three rounds of .22 calibre ammunition, one loaded in a metal clip, and 30 g of marijuana.

Neale McJannet has been charged with:

  • Discharge of a firearm being reckless to the life or safety of another person
  • Two counts of careless storage of a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Careless ammunition storage
  • Possessing a prohibited firearm
  • Uttering death threats
  • Possession of a controlled drug

McJannet is in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
