Crash Victim’s Name Released
Middlesex OPP have released the name of the 18-year-old girl who died after a collision on Medway Rd on Monday afternoon and the reason why her car left the westbound lane and hit and eastbound dump truck.
Cassandra Hawkins of Woodstock died in hospital after the collision that occurred east of Clarke Rd at about 1:15 pm. OPP say their investigation shows that she was westbound on Medway Rd. and tried to pass a transport truck. The car went out of control and ran onto the south shoulder, hitting the transport’s trailer. The vehicle then collided with an unloaded dump truck in the eastbound lane. The teen was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver and lone occupant of the dump truck was a 68-year-old South Huron man. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver and lone occupant of the transport truck was a 29-year-old London man, who wasn’t hurt.
The road was closed for more than five hours for the investigation by the OPP Technical Traffic Investigation Team.
