Solar Power To Charge PhonesSeptember 28, 2014 2:00am
Researchers at Western University are hoping to use solar energy to power cell phones.
Scientists have discovered that a small molecule created with 144 atoms of gold can increase solar power performance by over 10%.
Giovanni Fanchini from Western’s Faculty of Science says this could be game-changing and take solar power mainstream.
“There’s still the problem about weight and size and doing it in a way that is efficient and cost effective,” Fanchini tells BlackburnNews.com. “What we want to do to have a technology that can solve all of these issues and can be commercialized without any problems.”
He hopes the technology will be usable in five years and shift the general population away from a dependence on electricity.
