A visit to his hometown last week ended up in criminal charges for Justin Bieber.

Perth OPP say the pop-star is charged with dangerous driving and assault after an incident on Friday afternoon. Police say they were called around 3pm to an area northeast of Stratford, where an ATV and a minivan collided.

Investigators say, after the collision, there was an altercation between the the driver of the ATV and a person in the minivan.

Bieber’s lawyer is laying the blame at the feet of the paparrazi.

“Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez’s peaceful retreat in Stratford this weekend was unfortunately disrupted by the unwelcome presence of the paparazzi,” Brian Greenspan, Bieber’s Toronto lawyer, said in an email to The Canadian Press.

“This has regrettably resulted in charges of dangerous driving and assault. Mr. Bieber and Ms. Gomez have fully cooperated in the police investigation. We are hopeful that this matter will be quickly resolved.”

Bieber was released from custody and is to appear in Stratford court on September 29.
