Reward Offered In Decades-old Murder

Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the discovery of the body of Sonya Cywink, and OPP hope the offer of a reward will lead to information that may help find her killer.

Her remains were found August 30, 1994 at the Southwold Earth Works on Iona Rd. in Southwold Township.

Sonya had last been seen five days before in the area of Dundas St. and Lyle St.

“Certainly we want to solve this homicide and bring the perpetrator to justice for Sonya and her family,” says OPP Detective Inspector Tracy Dobbin. “Someone out there knows something about this case and we are urging them to step forward and help bring this investigation to a successful conclusion.”

On Friday, police released a new reward poster with information about the case and the announcement of a $60,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Sonya’s killer.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the director of Criminal Investigation Services with the Ontario Provincial Police at 1 888-310-1122 or (705) 329-6111, or their nearest police authority.

Anonymous tips can also be given to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- 8477.
