UPDATE: Name Released in Tobacco Farm Mishap

Norfolk County OPP have now released the name of a man killed after crashing a fertilizer spreader in North Walsingham.

Norfolk OPP, Norfolk County Fire, paramedics and an Ornge air ambulance were called at about 7 pm Monday, to a farm on Norfolk County Road 45.

OPP say 56-year-old Cyriel D’Hulster was operating a three-wheeled fertilizer spreader through a tobacco field. A seasonal worker was riding as a passenger. For reasons not yet determined, the spreader continued past the end of a row and down a 75-ft embankment before overturning in a pond. The seasonal worker was able to jump from the spreader and run to a nearby farm for help.

The spreader operator was pronounced dead on the scene.

OPP,  and the ministries of Labour and Environment are investigating.
