UPDATE: Missing Centralia Toddler Found Alive

A two-year-old girl who went missing Tuesday night in a cornfield outside of Centralia has been found alive.

Several children were playing in a corn field near a home on Whalen Line Tuesday night, but when the children returned the¬†toddler wasn’t with them.

Family members and neighbours searched the property but were unable to find the girl. OPP were called around 10:30pm and began a search which continued overnight. Constable Kees Wijnands tells Blackburn News the search covered about 100 acres of property.

Tuesday morning, the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team members, the OPP West Region Canine Unit and South Huron Volunteer firefighters conducted a grid search, row by row, of the cornfields.

The girl was found by a local property owner in a bean field near the corn fields where the children had been playing. She is in good condition but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A Rescue Coordination Centre helicopter from Canadian Forces Base Trenton, and an OPP helicopter also assisted with the search.
