A local cycling advocate is inviting other cyclists to a memorial ride for a young woman killed while riding her bike in London.

Gary Brown, a member of the city’s Cycling Advisory Committee, is organizing the ride for Alexandra Foto. The 19-year-old died last week after colliding with a cement truck at the corner of Wharncliffe Rd. and Riverside Dr.

The ride gets underway at 6pm Thursday.

The Facebook page for the event says, “We will be riding through downtown and will stop at the accident site at Riverside and Wharnclife for the traditional ringing of the bells to send this angel to heaven far to early.”

Foto was a London resident, a former student of Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School and was going into her second year in International Development at the University of Waterloo. She had taken part in a number of youth mission trips with World Vision to places like Kenya and the Dominican Republic. She was an official Youth Ambassador for World Vision Canada, and most recently traveled to Brazil to be a part of the World Vision Cup.
