Stolen Jersey returned Two Decades Later
Two decades after it was stolen, a Brazilian soccer jersey signed by Pele and Hugo Perez has been returned to it’s London owner.
The yellow jersey was taken in a break-in at a home in the city in December of 1994.
It was recently recovered by police. But in order to return it, police needed authentication of the theft.
All police records of the theft had been purged. Insurance records were also unavailable and the insurance company had never paid the owner for the loss.
Det. Mark McGugan put out a call to colleagues, both present and past, asking anyone if they worked on the case.
The notes of a retired detective gave police the authentication they needed, and the jersey was returned to its rightful owner.
