Unappealing Tap Water in East End Neighbourhood “Safe”

Brownish water was coming out of the taps for some people living in an area of the city’s east end this morning.

It was the result of a new water flow for construction of a subdivision going up in the Clarke Rd and Hamilton Rd area.  Huggins says a crew dispatched to the scene  flushed the pipes and the water should be back to normal.

The discoloured water was caused by a change in the flow of water away from the construction site and through older cast iron pipes that have rusted over the years. Newer water lines are made of plastic.

Huggins says if any laundry done this morning in the area was stained with rust, residents can call the City of London and a rust stain remover will be dropped off.
