Fanshawe College’s plan to buy and expand the Kingsmills building is a step closer to fruition.

On Tuesday, members of the Corporate Services Committee voted 4-1 in favour of recommending to council that it approve Fanshawe’s request for an additional $10-million dollars in city funding for the project.

“We’re delighted that this important initiative for the college and the city will be moving forward to city council next week,” says Fanshawe College President Peter Devlin.

The city has already promised $10-million to the school. The added $10-million grant would be given over the course of 10 years.

If city council approves the recommendation, the sale of the building to Fanshawe would likely go through sometime in early August.

Council will vote at its next meeting on Tuesday.
