London police are investigating a Thursday morning collision involving one of their own.

Police say a cruiser was on its way to a weapons call just before 8am when it collided with another vehicle on Fanshawe Park Rd. at Stanton Dr., east of Hyde Park Rd.  EMS Superintendent Steve Cook tells Blackburn News there were no serious injuries. A woman and teenage girl were transported to Victoria Hospital for precautionary reasons and the officer was not taken to hospital.

Constable Danielle Wright says the Special Investigations Unit will not be involved in the investigation. The SIU can invoke its mandate when civilians are injured when a police officer is involved. Constable Wright says police have not decided who was at fault for the accident.

At the time of the crash, the officer was responding to a weapons call in the parking lot of the Walmart Superstore after a concerned citizen spotted a man with what appeared to be a rifle inside a car. The Walmart was temporarily locked-down, but police who arrived on the scene found the gun was an Airsoft replica, and was not a risk to the public. The owner of the air gun was given a warning about carrying it in public.

Police are still investigating. The mother and daughter have been released from hospital.
