Just because he was driving a Smart Car, doesn’t mean he was a smart driver.

Oxford OPP say a Putnam man has lost his licence and car for seven days, after police allege he was driving 145 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

On Wednesday, June 25 an officer spotted a black Smart Car traveling at a high rate of speed on Dereham Line in South-West Oxford Township.

The officer pulled the car over, and 47-year-old Christopher Brown of Putnam is now charged under the Highway Traffic Act with racing a motor vehicle.

Police say drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it more difficult for drivers to react to changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.
