Bark In The Park Is For People Too

Thousands of people and hundreds of dogs are expected to play at the Plunkett Estate on Sunday for the 30th annual Bark in the Park Festival.

It’s the London Humane Society’s largest fundraising event, with proceeds coming from pledges or a $10 entry fee.

Event Coordinator Wendy McNiff says bringing a canine companion isn’t mandatory.  There are activities for children and families as well as doggie swims, games and a walk around the massive estate grounds.

McNiff says that once you’re in the gate, you can put your wallet away.

All fund raised stay locally at the Humane Society, which has a goal of raising $100,000. McNiff says it’s often expensive to care for animals at the shelter and the society has other responsibilities including educating the public about animal welfare, enforcing animal welfare laws and advocating on the behalf of animals.

The festival runs Sunday, June 1 from 10am to 3pm, on the Plunkett Estate at 9282 Elviage Dr.
