Farm Accident Leaves Man In Critical ConditionMay 30, 2014 3:13pm
A Malahide Township man is in hospital after an accident on an Elgin County farm.
OPP say emergency crews were called at 11:43am on May 30, after a man was run over by a piece of farm equipment. The incident happened on a farm on Eden Ln. between Plank Rd. and Sandytown Rd. in the Township of Bayham.
Police say the 57-year-old man was cutting the lawn around a cabin on the property. He was walking backwards with the push mower as a farm tractor passed behind him. The investigation has determined the man saw the tractor but did not realize that it was towing a cultivator and behind that the packer. Thinking it was clear, he stepped backwards into the path of the packer and was run over.
He was airlifted to hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Police have deemed the incident not to be suspicious in nature and was accidental. The Ministry of Labour is not investigating.
