An Aylmer man was airlifted to hospital after the paraglider he was flying crashed into a cliff west of Port Bruce.

The 47-year-old man ran into trouble on the Lake Erie shoreline on Sunday afternoon at about 2pm, in the area of Dexter Line and Harding Smith Line. Elgin County OPP say the experienced paraglider pilot lost control of his craft and hit the side of a cliff.  Malahide Fire Services performed a steep angle rescue of the pilot who was then airlifted to hospital in serious condition, later updated to stable with non-life threatening injuries.

Elgin OPP say the pilot had made several flights and was attempting to land at the time of the crash. Police say wind gusts appear to have been a factor.
