OPP Using Twitter For AMBER Alerts

May 20, 2014 9:57am
OPP are rolling out a new plan to use Twitter to help find abducted children when AMBER Alerts are issued.
Police say that by announcing AMBER Alerts on Twitter thousands of people will be notified within seconds, and people using Twitter will be able to retweet the Alert.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of Transportation said they would display the information in an AMBER Alert on overhead signs on highways for drivers. Now, drivers can call Ontario 511 to find out more about the Alert as well as the usual up-to-date traffic information.
The Alerts will be tweeted from the account @OPP_Coordinator.
